About

Hello all.  I hope you find reading my blog interesting.  As you can tell this is mainly a technical resource for those looking to utilize good, sound design and implementation principles in a MySQL DB infrastructure.  I also plan a section on various “spleen venting” subjects that range from geopolitical to social to financial in nature.  Those sections aren’t available yet.  So, for now please be content with the database musings I present.  As for me, I’ve been doing DB related tasks for eons …. or at least since the .com boom days of the early 1990s.  I started right out of college doing programming but quickly migrated to the database layer due to my fascination and talent with structured design methodologies and with the propensity for databases to easily implement this type of mentality.  While I was in school I became acquainted with TI’s IEF and thus became steeped early on in ER design practices as dictated by E.F. Codd and further by the methods of James Martin.  This lead to a measure of experience with Oracle vers 6.x through 10g.  Along the way though I became enamored with MySql.  This is because MySQL seemed to, and does,  perform lightning fast AND never bent under transaction or data density load.  So, take a read around and enjoy.
